Liz and Julien’s Engagement Session

Last week I got together with a great couple for some engagement photos.  I’ll be shooting their wedding this summer but I only had a small block of time to get these photos done.  That’s because Julien lives in France!  The Reader’s Digest version goes like this… Liz was studying and working in France,  when a friend of hers told her that the best way to learn the language was to date a French guy.  What her friend didn’t tell her was that you might fall in love with, and end up marrying him!  So for months these two have maintained a very long distance relationship while racking up some serious frequent flyer mileage.  It was so great to spend the afternoon listening to them speak to one another in French, and having Liz translate for me!  I learned how to say smile, kiss and very good, but that’s about it!  I hope to have a few more phrases down before the wedding.  And actually Julien has learned quite a bit of English so he helped me out a lot.  Anyway, on with the photos!

We started out with some nice urban photos at a few of my favorite spots around Old Town Orange.  I love all of the texture and color in the building materials.  It is such an interesting place to shoot.

After wandering around town, we headed for the hills.  Since Liz is a Newport Beach girl, I thought the beach might be a perfect location, but the “June gloom” was lurking in May.  So we wisely went into the canyon to enjoy the late afternoon sun.

I had a great time with you guys and I can’t wait for your wedding!  Thanks for teaching me some French and for your patience!  And please let me know if I messed up any of my French in this post…I certainly don’t want to offend anyone or say something inappropriate!!

Terynn and Jeff’s E Session

I’ve been on a blogging hiatus due to the fact that April for me means not only the usual things like little league and taxes, but it also is the month of 3 birthdays in the Shaw home.  So needless to say, I haven’t had a lot of time to sit down and think of fun and interesting things to post.  But last week I did a great engagement session with a couple whose wedding I will be shooting later next month.  First I have to say, these are two great people that I felt like I instantly clicked with, which always makes for good photos.  I was amazed that after sitting in traffic for over 3 hours, they both showed up with big smiles, laughing and ready to have some fun!  Now for the photos…

We started with some fun shots around the Orange Circle.  I use this door in a lot of photos, not just because it’s a cool looking door but because it is the doorway to my favorite Mexican Restaurant, Gabbi’s.  If you find yourself in the Orange Circle around supper time, I highly recommend it!

Terynn’s smile is extremely contagious.  I found myself cracking up through most of this session!

After the urban shots, we headed for the hills and found the last few wildflowers left over from the rains.

The shot above to the left was one of my favorites from the session.

Some may say the silhouette shot with the sunset is cheesy, but I like it!  The sky was so pretty and I think it has a real romantic feel to it…even if it does look the cover of a “K-Tel’s Soft Hits of the 70′s” album cover :-)

There’s nothing like that late afternoon golden light to just warm things up so beautifully….

I had a great time hanging out with these two amazing people and I can’t wait for the wedding!

Laura and Topher

My third engagement session from last week was with Laura and Topher.  I feel so blessed to have such great people to work with.  Every now and then I hear these nightmare stories about the clients other photographers end up working with, but all of the couples I have worked with have been such amazing people and, Laura and Topher are no exception!

It was great hanging out with you guys and thanks for making the trek out to OC.  I can’t wait to shoot your wedding…it’s going to be a blast!

Debby and Steve

Last weekend I met up with a great couple whose wedding I am shooting this summer up in Oregon.  Since it has a tendency to be a bit gray up in Oregon this time of year (it doesn’t rain, it’s only a heavy drizzle) they made the trip down to OC to shoot some engagement photos in Laguna Beach.  It looked like maybe they brought some of the Pacific Northwest with them, but the late afternoon sun finally made it’s way through and gave us a beautiful afternoon.

Debby’s son came along, so we did a mini family shoot as well!

After walking around town for a bit, we headed out on the beach to get a little sandy.

Debby and Steve, I had a great time hanging with you guys and I can’t wait to make the trip to Portland to shoot your wedding this summer!

Zack and Mallorie

Last November, I did a family photo shoot for the Caldwell family. So the whole family was there, along with the newest soon to be member of their family, Mallorie.  Their son Zack had proposed the night before and as things worked out, they ended up choosing me to shoot their wedding this summer.  Last week, I met up with the two of them to shoot their engagement session.  I am really looking forward to their wedding this July.  The ceremony is going to be held at Mariner’s new chapel which looks amazing!  On with the photos….

For you photographers out there, I shot this with a polarized filter and an off camera strobe at camera left.  I think it came out pretty cool!

This was the closest I got to getting Zack to give me a serious look.  You can tell by Mallorie’s expression that she wasn’t buying it either.

Zack instinctively got in this position when he got near the wall.  There’s got to be a story there!

You can’t fake being truly happy…

The shot above was my favorite of the day…

I’m picturing these two on their wedding day…something tells me my job is going to be very easy!

I had a great time with these two and I can’t wait for the wedding!
