More Whidbey Island Photos

I took so many pictures on our vacation to Whidbey Island  that I decided to just post some of my favorite art images from the trip.  Here they are….

Foxglove grows wild all over the island

We visited the Pelindaba Lavender Farm on San Juan Island.  They had these huge steel sculptures scattered through the fields.

I caught these guys waking up early one morning

This was the sunrise our last morning on the island.

The Eagles of Whidbey Island

While I’m not a wildlife photographer, unless taking pictures of my dog qualifies me as such, the idea definitely intrigues me!  The first day we were on the island, it wasn’t more than 30 minutes before a Bald Eagle cruised over our heads.   I was unaware that Whidbey Island is home to some 47 nesting pairs of eagles, so when I saw him float effortlessly by, I grabbed my camera and started shooting.  This became an obsession as the trip wore on!  I had my camera outside always, doing my best to keep an eye on it because nothing stops your heart like seeing a 3 year old running with a $3000 camera in his little sticky hands!  So I kept on shooting and watching and through the week, I feel like I learned so much about these incredible works of God’s Creation.  So here are some of my favorite eagle pics from the week.

Bald Eagles don’t get their distinctive coloring until they are 4 or 5 years old, so my guess is that the brown colored eagles I kept seeing were the young ones.  Young or old, this guy was BIG!  His wingspan was close to 7 feet and when he was perched, he seemed like he was 3 feet tall.

The bird on the left looked like he was just starting to get a white head of feathers.

It was incredible to observe and photograph these birds all week.  For you photographers out there, I shot all of these with either a Canon 30d or 5d with a 70-200 f4L lens.

Seattle, Washington…enroute to Whidbey Island!

We just returned home from an incredible vacation.  We spent 7 days on the shores of the Puget Sound in Whidbey Island with three other families.  But on our way there, we spent two days in Seattle exploring the Emerald City.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the first part of our big trip.

I’ll be posting more images from our trip in the next few days so be sure and check back!
