Weather!

This morning I woke up to a flash of light across our bedroom windows, followed by a long roll of thunder. Now I know most of you at this point pull the pillow over your head and try to go back to sleep before the alarm goes off. But I have this weird quirk where I can’t let a storm pass without observing it. It’s been a long dry summer, so the thought of some actual weather gets me pumped! So I threw on some clothes, grabbed my camera and headed up the hill, because everyone knows in an electrical storm, you should get to the highest point possible, and hold onto an aluminum tripod!! Well, for you photographers out there, there was a ton of ambient light from the sunrise, so I couldn’t do a bulb exposure and was trying to time the lightning strikes with 20 second exposures. Twice the shutter clicked closed just as the bolt streaked across the sky, so it wasn’t meant to be. But it wasn’t a total loss. I got to smell the wonderful scent of fresh rain in the morning and the sunrise was absolutely beautiful. So for those of you who pulled the pillow over your head, this is what it looked like. Enjoy…

Ethan’s Balboa Bar Mitzvah

Last weekend I photographed Ethan’s Bar Mitzvah.  I’ve done portraits of Ethan a few times in the past so it was fun to be a part of such a big day in his life.  He did a great job of speaking and reciting his Hebrew during the service.  It always impresses me to see a thirteen year old get up in front of a crowd with such confidence.

Ethan did a great job and it was quite obvious how serious he was about this sacred rite of passage.  His mom and dad were beaming with pride!

After the service, it was on to the party which was held down in Newport at the Balboa Bay Club, right on the sand.  It couldn’t have been a more beautiful evening to be outside and on the water.  The DJ’s were from H2H, who never disappoint!  I heard more than one person say that this was one of the best parties they had ever been to!  So I put together a slideshow below with some highlights of the celebration.  Congratulations Ethan and thanks for letting me be a part of your big day!

Vote for Sydney!

I entered Sydney into this contest that the Register is putting on for the cutest dog or something like that.  While I don’t need the OC Register to tell me whether or not my dog is the cutest, I think it would help her self esteem!  So if you wouldn’t mind, just click on the photo and it will take you to her page to vote her!  Last time I checked she only had like 2 votes!  It will crush her if she doesn’t get at least get like 5!!

Alex In Old Town

The other day I met up with Alex to do a portrait session in the Orange Circle.  Along with being a soccer player and a black belt in karate, she is also a song writer!  Which is where I come in.  Some of her music has been recorded and is being shopped around a bit, so she needed some shots of her to go with her publicity package.  As you can see from the photos, she is a total natural in front of the camera.

I didn’t notice at the time, but her eyes match the background on the right perfectly!

I had a blast hanging out with Alex and learning more about her music.  You get the feeling that there are big things ahead in her future!

Caldwell Family in Laguna

The other night I met up with a great family down in Laguna for a nice family photo shoot. The beach is funny sometimes. You may go down there in July, and you can’t see 10 feet off shore because the fog is so thick. But it’s a pretty safe bet in September that it’s going to be gorgeous. Which was the case on this evening. The water was sparkling blue, the light golden, with a nice warm temp. Mix in a great family like this and you got yourself some beautiful pics!

The night before, their son popped the question.  The family wanted to include their soon to be daughter in law.  They seem to really like her!

Thanks again Caldwells for letting me hang out with you at the beach!
