New Wiley Valentine Website

My friends Emily and Rachelle over at Wiley Valentine have launched a brand new website complete with online ordering.  They have also started a great Blog that is full of all kinds of cool inspiring photos and info about what makes their stationery line so amazing.  So be sure to check it out and forward it on to someone you know!

My Kids

I seriously wonder sometimes how people without kids become photographers!  It’s not like you generally have a bunch of friends that are willing to let you take hundreds of photos of them all the time.  Just about everything I have learned as a portrait photographer has been through taking pictures of my kids.  They are very patient with me and fortunately they are a couple of hams!  I probably don’t thank them enough for always being willing to have fun with me and play along!

Breezie on a windy day…

Well we’ve gone from snow to 86 degrees and Santa Ana winds in a matter of a couple of weeks.  It can be a bit challenging sometimes to go shoot environmental portraits when 50 mph winds are swirling.  But it’s all part of the fun and challenge to work with whatever the current conditions may be.  I have recently joined Rock Harbor Church’s photography team.  So I was excited when I was given an assignment for an upcoming issue of Motion Magazine for the church.  I met a very cool young person named Breezie and we headed out to shoot some portraits to go with an article about her.

Sunrise in Black Star Canyon

I have always loved the sunrise.  When I was a kid, any time I was on vacation I would wake up with my dad and we would go watch the sun come up.  I know it’s weird because most people associate vacation with sleeping in.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not especially fond of waking up when it’s dark to go to work.  But if you can grab a cup of coffee and experience the quietest time of the day, you will see things that most people never do.  So, the other day, I woke up early, grabbed my coffee and camera and headed out to the canyon to shoot some pictures.  It was an amazing January morning…

It wasn’t an especially colorful sunrise because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but it was beautiful none the less.

Just waiting around for something to die!

Yep, still in Orange County.

USS Midway

Last week my dad took me and my son along with my brother in law and my nephew down to San Diego to check out the USS Midway.  We hopped on the Amtrak in Santa Ana and it was a great day for a train ride.  It was super clear and cold and you could see for miles out across the ocean.  The train ride was almost 2 hours so it gave us some time to hang out and see the landscape go rolling by.  I got some cool shots of Ian and he decided to take my portrait.  I must say, the kid has skills!  I love the way he framed me with the window.

The USS Midway served the US Navy in Vietnam through the first Gulf War.  One of the ships aircraft has the distinction of having the first and last air to air kills in Vietnam.
