Samantha and Steve

Last weekend I shot a great engagement session with Samantha and Steve down in Laguna Beach. I’ll be shooting their wedding this May so it was great to spend some time getting to know these two great people. They were engaged at Crystal Cove, so that’s where we started the shoot.

We moved on to the south and went into downtown Laguna to shoot with some of the cool textures as backdrops.

It’s important to always keep your girl laughing…

Last stop, down to the beach.  Typical southern California, the sun which had been shining for a couple of days, decided to hide behind some clouds.  But, we made the best of it anyway.  At least it wasn’t raining!

The next shot was my favorite of the day.  There is something about the way Samantha is leaning into Steve with such a look of peace and comfort.  I dig it!

I had a great time hanging out with you guys and I can’t wait for the wedding!

The Williams Family on Furlough!

Last week I had the opportunity to hang out with some old friends and shoot some pictures of their beautiful family.  I met Chet, well, before I can remember!  I have known him since preschool when we met at Calvary Church in Santa Ana.  Now the Williams live in Ecuador where they are missionaries working with the Huaorani people.  They have been back in the states on furlough and so we got together to get them some updated photos.

love that beautiful afternoon golden light!

these are some seriously photogenic kids!

The shot above was my favorite of the afternoon.  I love it when kids’ personalities come through the photo!

amazing to see some wildflowers already popping up

Chet and Katie, I had so much fun hanging out with you guys!  Your kids are so beautiful and you are an amazing family.  I think these photos truly reveal the closeness and love that you guys share!  The Williams family are going to have their own website soon, so when it goes live, I’ll be sure to post a link!

Cayucos Trip – Part II

And so we continue.  Jim was ready to enjoy his Valentine’s Day breakfast!

Some of the fixins…

My daughter made this beautiful fruit salad complete with star fruit.  They taste a little like cucumber.

ummmmmmmm…. pancakies

On Sunday we drove from Cayucos to Cambria via the back roads.  I was in awe as every canyon provided a new view of old barns and farm houses.  Then we came across a nice pig pen.

They seemed to be enjoying the wet weather we’d been having.  The road was lined with one beautiful horse stable after another as well.

We eventually made our way out to Ragged Point and there was a pretty good storm brewing.  It was really windy, really cold, but still quite beautiful.

We’re smiling because our faces are frozen like that.

Cayucos Trip Part I

We had an amazing weekend up in the Central Coast.  The weather was cooperative considering that we originally thought it was going to be raining every day.  But it was incredible and we had quite a memorable trip.  We started out by taking the back road out of Santa Barbara by Lake Cachuma to get to Solvang to visit the Santa Inez mission for my daughter’s fourth grade mission project.

All along the road you were treated to one beautiful scene after another.  This is a stitched panorama of the Santa Ynez valley that I took just above Lake Cachuma.  Then we arrived at the mission in Solvang and my daughter got to see what she’s been studying first hand.

My in laws, and our gracious hosts for the weekend

We headed out of Solvang and went to the town of Los Olivos, of course stopping along the way for a couple more picturesque scenes.

We stopped at a great little coffee shop in Los Olivos and I grabbed a few nice portraits of my beautiful family!

After a quick break it was time to get back on the road.

Saturday we woke up to blue skies and warmer weather.  We headed down to the beach for a nice walk and explored the town a bit.

For some reason, no matter what time of day it is, you can always find perfect light under a pier.

Pretty nice on top of the pier too.

And Cayucos at sunset.  I’ll post some more photos later this week, but here’s a quick pick from our back roads trip to Cambria.

Cayucos Sneak Preview

We just got home from a nice relaxing weekend up in Cayucos.  The trip doubled as my daughter’s trip to her mission for her fourth grade project and some much needed family time.  Fortunately she chose the Santa Inez mission which brought us to one of my favorite places, the beautiful and lush Central Coast area.  I took a ton of photos that I will post later this week, but here’s one quick little sneak peak of the sunset over Cayucos beach.
