Samantha & Steve’s Wedding

Last weekend I shot at a wedding in the Dove Canyon Courtyard for an amazing couple, Samantha and Steve.   These two were such easy going and nice people, it really made the day a lot of fun. One of the best things about being a wedding photographer is meeting people like this.  It’s kind of a unique relationship because not too often do you follow someone around for 8 hours taking pictures of them!  Fortunately, I love meeting new people, talking with them, learning about their life and just having fun!!  Which always seems to make every one feel better about getting their photo taken.  I had the very talented Stephanie Tracy as my second shooter for the day, so I knew we were going to get some good stuff!  So let’s look at some pictures, starting with some getting ready shots.

The girls’ hair was done by two very talented hairdressers, Megan Gerhard Zeutenhorst & Shelly Anderson and the make up was done by  Angela Peralta.

If you’re a bride looking for some good people to work with on your wedding day, be sure to check back because I’ll update this post with their contact info.

I love this shot because number one, the indirect lighting through the window is beautiful, but mostly because of her expression.  It reminds me of my daughter playing dress up!

This little guy was great.  He had no problems about posing for a few shots for me, which made me think he’s had a camera or two aimed at him!  I think he looked great on the red velvet sofa. The puppy in the top right was the sweetest dog and maybe one of the oldest dogs I’ve ever seen!

Samantha’s mom made all the kids in the wedding these cool blankets with their names embroidered on them, which came in handy when the sun went down.

More of the cute kids at the wedding!

Below on the left is a shot of Steve’s handkerchief that bore the initials of his friend that passed away a few years ago.

I love this shot of Samantha peeking out of the window of her bridal room.  I was joking with her about how many people you see at your wedding that you don’t know!

Both Steve’s and Samantha’s parent are such great people.  Rather than just the bride’s parents giving her away, both parents stood and gave their approval.

And instead of lighting a candle, they enjoyed a nice meritage of wine to symbolize their union.  Of course there was some laughs when they both had seconds!

After the ceremony, we headed across where the afternoon sun was shining through the trees.  It was such amazing light, it was hard to let them go to get back to their wedding!   Samantha made such a gorgeous bride and she’s very relaxed with the camera.  And Steve cleans up pretty good too!

Thanks again guys for letting me be a part of your big day and for making my job so easy!

The Cubs are the New Champions!

I have to do a little bragging today.  My son’s single A baseball team won the league championship game this week!  I’m seriously thinking about writing a screenplay about this team because of the amazing way that they did it.

These guys started out the season 1-5 and honestly, it didn’t look good!  But something snapped and these guys caught fire.  They basically made it into the semi finals as the wild card team, and ended up winning their championship game 13-10.  I am so proud of these guys, not only for their accomplishment, but for the way they did it.  They have got to be the best group of boys I’ve met.  When one of them strikes out or makes a mistake, the other boys rally around him and encourage him.  They are always laughing and I think that’s why they won.  They played like a bunch of kids! On top of that, their coaches are a great group of guys as well who balanced learning the game, winning the game and having fun. I’ll be posting a slideshow of photos I did through the season at another date.  Now it’s on to the Tustin City Tournament.  Go Cubs!!

Give Your Sole

I must say, I have been a very bad blogger as of late.  But that’s what happens when you get really busy and you get out of the “sit in front of the computer” mode.  But since my last post, quite a bit has gone on and I’ve done a lot of shoots, so I’ve got some catching up to do.  So the first post I wanted to get up was for a great cause a friend of mine is spear heading.  The name of the organization is Give Your Sole and it focuses on collecting used running shoes at races to give to the needy.  Most runners change shoes about every 4-6 months so they’ve got a lot of mileage left in them.   They are currently working on their website so I met up with founder Brett Byrd at the Orange County Marathon to get some photos for the site and for their blog.

The goal was to get some stock type shots of the event, but without getting clear shots of faces for obvious reasons.  So I did a lot of stuff like this one above where you still get the feeling for the mass of humanity at these events without focusing on any individual.

I got a lot of shots of people’s feet

gystimThis is Brett’s friend Tim modeling the Give Your Sole T-shirt.  I never saw Brett after the start of the race but I got lucky and saw Tim coming up the hill out of the Back Bay.

If you are planning on attending the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon on May 31, make sure you keep your eyes open for the Give Your Sole booth.  They will be there at the expo and the race.  Bring some old shoes and drop them off before or you can donate your shoes at the end of the race and they’ll give you a nice pair of Give Your Sole flip flops and a coupon for $10 off your new pair of shoes at Road Runner Sports!
