Terynn and Jeff’s Thousand Oaks Wedding

Last weekend I shot a wedding for a great couple of in Thousand Oaks.  Terynn and Jeff are just awesome people with amazing famiies so it was great to be a part of their big day.  They had their ceremony in a friend’s beautiful back yard and the reception was held at a nearby community center.  Their back yard is super lush with giant trees so it was an incredible setting.

There are many differences between men and women, obviously.  Take for instance the last couple of hours before the wedding.  Here we see Terynn getting the last few finishing touches on her hair while a bride’s maid helps her get her veil on.

Down the street Jeff’s is working on his rec skills while his groomsmen help him get his frisbee on!

Terynn was a stunning bride.  All day she reminded me of Julia Ormond in the 1995 remake of “Sabrina”

Jeff is a high school teacher and Terynn works with Autistic children, so kids are a big part of their life.  And they were a big part of their wedding with 4 flower girls and two junior bride’s maids.

Back to business…Jeff was ready!

So this was something I hadn’t seen before!  Jeff and Terynn were determined not to see each other before the ceremony, but they wanted to have a time of prayer with their close family and friends.  So a blindfolded Jeff was led into the room for the prayer.  I hope he didn’t peak :)

I love this shot of Jeff trying his best to keep it together as he watches his beautiful bride approach

Terynn’s dad presented Jeff with the key to his daughter’s heart after walking her down the aisle, something he has had since Terynn was a little girl.

After the ceremony, we buzzed over to the Westlake Village Inn to shoot some portraits of the newlyweds

This was my favorite shot of the day because of the cool Film Noir look about it

Back to the recption where the guests were greeted by more brilliant colors!  I loved the champagne glass full of nachos and guacamole on the head table!  They looked so good, but I refrained from sneaking a bite.  The culinary duties were handled by Pierre’s Catering

The wedding day was also Jeff’s parent’s 50th wedding anniversary!  So they made sure to have an anniversary cake along side their wedding cake.  And despite the fact that his parents didn’t want a fuss, Jeff brought his mom and dad up on stage for the cake cutting.  They are an amazing couple and a great example for all of us younger married folks to follow!

Liz and Julien’s Engagement Session

Last week I got together with a great couple for some engagement photos.  I’ll be shooting their wedding this summer but I only had a small block of time to get these photos done.  That’s because Julien lives in France!  The Reader’s Digest version goes like this… Liz was studying and working in France,  when a friend of hers told her that the best way to learn the language was to date a French guy.  What her friend didn’t tell her was that you might fall in love with, and end up marrying him!  So for months these two have maintained a very long distance relationship while racking up some serious frequent flyer mileage.  It was so great to spend the afternoon listening to them speak to one another in French, and having Liz translate for me!  I learned how to say smile, kiss and very good, but that’s about it!  I hope to have a few more phrases down before the wedding.  And actually Julien has learned quite a bit of English so he helped me out a lot.  Anyway, on with the photos!

We started out with some nice urban photos at a few of my favorite spots around Old Town Orange.  I love all of the texture and color in the building materials.  It is such an interesting place to shoot.

After wandering around town, we headed for the hills.  Since Liz is a Newport Beach girl, I thought the beach might be a perfect location, but the “June gloom” was lurking in May.  So we wisely went into the canyon to enjoy the late afternoon sun.

I had a great time with you guys and I can’t wait for your wedding!  Thanks for teaching me some French and for your patience!  And please let me know if I messed up any of my French in this post…I certainly don’t want to offend anyone or say something inappropriate!!
