Spring has sprung!

All the rain that pelted us here in southern California for the last few months has left behind some beautiful scenery.  Where a lot of the country looks like this through the summer, you really only get a month or two of this here and that’s only if it rains a lot.  Yesterday I was riding my mountain bike through Peter’s Canyon and I counted six different wildflowers.  I’ll definitely be getting out to shoot more this spring…

It is amazing what a little green can do.  This was taken from along Santiago Canyon Road.

Here’s a shot of the trail head where I took Sydney for a hike.

Sydney leaves an easy trail to follow

The only thing that let’s you know that you’re still in the middle of Orange County is the Toll Road in the back ground.

wild pansies?

Some shots of shootin’

Last week my dad and I took my son out to the desert for his first day of shooting.  It was an absolutely perfect day with blue skies and mild high desert temperature.  But it was also just one of those great days where I got to watch my dad working with my son as the memories flooded over me.  My dad used to take me out to the same area out near Barstow and he taught me how to shoot, how to drive a stick shift and how to enjoy the ruggedness of the desert.

This is my dad’s .22 rifle that he taught me to shoot with 30 years ago.  He bought when he was 14 years old which makes the rifle…really old! :)

I have to do a little braggin’ here…my son says to me, “dad put a couple of shotgun shells in that bush and I’m going to try and hit them.”  Of course I’m thinking, good luck dude!  So I set them up for him and he’s about 40-50 away…first shot he picks one of them off.  So being the supportive dad that I am I say, “let’s see you do that again!”  And he did.  Not bad…

Nice shot of my dad putting some lead through the ten ring

I was looking through some photos and I stumbled upon this shot that I took a few years ago.  We were driving out of Yosemite and we stopped for one last look at the Merced River.  Looking upstream I saw this fly fisherman casting and it was just such a perfect moment.  We are planning another trip this June and I can’t wait to get there!  I love the Sierras and Yosemite is just about as good as it gets.
