Irvine Park on a Monday Morning…

There are quite a few treasures to enjoy in and around Orange County.  However, they tend to be more enjoyable on a weekday, which is one of my favorite things about my job.  After 96 hours of helping others with their emergencies, it is great therapy to spend a morning hiking the hills and taking some photos.  It’s a time to think, to exercise, and to spend time with God’s creation.

This week I accompanied a new class of recruits from work to the Chevron oil refinery in El Segundo for some propane fire training.  As the propane is being expelled from the valves to create the fire scenarios, the gas forms a big propane ice block that will continue to burn.  Pretty awesome to see burning ice.  So when the instructor broke some off and carried it out to show everyone, I caught this shot of him coming through the water and the pipes.

There’s a field in Sonoma that has all of these beautiful Clydesdale horses.  I’ve passed by it a number of times and even stopped to take photos before.  But I happened to catch it right as the sun was going down, in that perfect golden time.  The bird flying through the background wasn’t intentional but it definitely added to overall feeling of the moment.  When I look at this image, it takes me right back to the moment when I captured it.

Final Shots From Cayucos

It’s tough to come back to Orange County after a few days of sipping your morning coffee, looking at this view

My kids are a lot of fun, and are pretty much up for anything that I ask them to do!

Since I was a kid, I have always wanted to find a real Indian arrowhead.  Always looking on hikes and camping trips, but for 38 years, nothing!  I was standing on the beach near the mouth of a creek and I looked down between my feet, and this little gem was just sitting there.  I was almost standing on top of it.  Without a doubt, the coolest thing that I have ever found…

I love moments like this.  If you have kids, you know how awesome it is to catch them in those moments when they are actually treating each other like friends rather than brother and sister.
